TOUR DESCRIPTION

Lake Myvatn and the surrounding area is a must see when exploring the North of Iceland!

Embark on an unforgettable adventure with the Fox Adventure team as we explore the stunning landscapes of Lake Mývatn, one of Iceland’s most beautiful and diverse regions. Shaped by a massive volcanic eruption 2,300 years ago, the area is rich in dramatic landforms and natural wonders. Its breathtaking scenery even caught the eye of Game of Thrones creators, who filmed several iconic scenes here.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Godafoss Waterfall
  • Skútustaðagígar Pseudo Craters
  • Dimmuborgir Lava Formations
  • The Rift Between the Eurasian and American Continents
  • Grjótagjá cave
  • Hverir – geothermal area
  • Nature Mývatn Baths

Our journey begins along Eyjafjörður, one of Iceland’s longest fjords, as we make our way to the legendary Goðafoss Waterfall, known as the “Waterfall of the Gods.” Hear the captivating tale behind its name while marveling at the cascading waters and the picturesque surroundings. Your guide will offer tips for capturing the perfect photo to remember the moment.

Next, we’ll immerse ourselves in the beauty of Lake Mývatn. Wander through the surreal Skútustaðagígar, unique pseudo craters formed by volcanic activity, a rare geological wonder found only in a few places on Earth, including Iceland, Hawaii, and even Mars. We’ll also explore Dimmuborgir, a labyrinth of stunning lava formations, before venturing into the magical Grjótagjá Cave, where you can admire the vivid blue waters of the geothermal river. For the adventurous, there’s the chance to snap a photo standing between two tectonic plates!

Our adventure continues with a visit to the Hverir geothermal area, where the earth’s raw power is on display with smoking fumaroles and bubbling mud pots. The journey will culminate in the relaxing Nature Mývatn Baths, where you can unwind in the warm, rejuvenating geothermal waters and steam baths, surrounded by the stunning landscape.

If time permits, we will make one final stop at Eyjafjörður, where you can capture a stunning photograph looking across the fjord to Akureyri, the charming capital of North Iceland.
